   sentences, marking vowels to aid in reading, consonant and vowel blends;
   Writing With Phonics

PHONICS:
  -review of alphabet; recognition and knowledge of names and sounds of
   consonants and vowels; short and long vowels; A Beka Book Publications
   Basic Phonics Charts 10 - 18; letter blends: st, pl, fr, th, sm, squ,
   tw, spl, thr, ...; completing words and sentences; punctuation (. ? !)

READING:
  -Closely related to Phonics program, continuing through a series of
   A Beka Book Publications readers; introduction to phrase reading
   to build speed and comprehension in reading (We can play/in the snow.)

LANGUAGE:
  -Various Language ditto booklets; continuation of language skills
   development; A Beka Language: write in complete sentences,
   capitalize first word of sentences, days of week, and months of year;
   place period at end of sentences, know and use suffixes and prefixes,
   recognize and work with rhyming words, opposite words, same-meaning
   words, same-sounding words, compound words, contractions,
   alphabetize words, write original sentences, paragraphs, and stories,
   comprehend reading material on a grade one level or above

SPELLING:
  -ACSI Spelling Series Grade 1: weekly spelling list words
   and accompanying seatwork

MATH:
  -A Beka Math--Arithmetic 1; addition, subtraction, shapes, money,
   telling time, graphing, measurement, geometry fractions, calendar, counting,
   number writing, reading numbers, place value, problem solving, logical thinking,
   ruler, temperature, multiplication

SCIENCE/SOCIAL STUDIES:
  -Canada; Space; Christmas Around the World; Dinosaurs; Australia; Oceans;
   Pioneers; Weather; Castles; Bugs

BIBLE:
  -Bible stories and related stories; daily prayer and devotions; weekly memory verses

FRENCH:
  -Introduction to the French language; basic vocabulary: greetings, salutations, numbers 1 to 30,
   colours, animals, classroom commands; French games and songs; body parts,
   using “Images 1” (Gage); kinesthetic based introduction to verbs; fruits and vegetables

PHYSICAL EDUCATION:
  -Group games and play; various ball and streamer activities to enhance small and
   large muscle co-ordination as well as hand-eye co-ordination
