   (ACSI-God and My Actions), and prayer -- weekly praise assemblies--
   *all other subject areas are scripture based and instructed with a definite
   Christian influence* Emphasis: character traits demonstrated
   throughout the Bible

PRINTING:
  -Continued practice in proper formation of all letters of the alphabet
   (upper and lower case); first and last name; Handwriting--introduction to
   cursive writing

PHONICS:
  -Review of alphabet; Basic Phonics Charts 10 to 18 (letter blends: st,
   pl, etc.); A Beka Book workbook: Letters and Sounds; various phonics
   ditto booklets; calendar: days of week, months of year

SPELLING:
  -ACSI Spelling Series Grade 2: weekly spelling list words
   and accompanying seatwork

READING:
  -BJU Readers (Once Upon an Open Book; Not So Very Long Ago) –
   a reading work text accompanies the readers; Read and Think Skill sheets;
   Selected Class Novels – Reading to the Class; Selected Chapter Book –
   Independent Study

LANGUAGE:
  -Various Language ditto booklets; continuation of language skills
   development; A Beka Language: recognize and write a complete sentence,
   a question, and an exclamation; be able to capitalize the first word in a sentence, days of the week,  
   months of the year, special holidays, word I, and names of people; put correct punctuation at end
   of a sentence (period, question mark, or exclamation point); be able to read and comprehend
   sentences and short stories; write interested sentences and short stories; know and use suffixes
   and prefixes; recognize and work with compound words, rhyming words, opposite words,
   same-meaning words, singular and plural words, singular possessive words, and contractions;
   alphabetize words; use the following words correctly: sit, sat, set; to, too, two; may, can; learn,
   teach; right, write; blue, blew

MATH:
  -Addition, subtraction, multiplication tables up to 12; shapes; money; telling time; graphing;
   measurement; geometry; fractions; A Beka Math Arithmetic 2: counting, place value,
   problem solving, logical thinking, Roman Numerals, calendar, thermometer, division

SOCIAL STUDIES:
  Our community – study of Fergus, Ontario – past, present and future; Welcome to our home
  – traveling preparations; Papua New Guinea – customs, land formation, people language;
  Argentina – ranch life, people, customs; Mexico – people, customs, food, language, lifestyle

SCIENCE:
  -Abeka 3 curriculum – weather, 5 senses, vertebrates

ART:
  -Cards and pictures related to calendar holidays and occasions-- Emphasis: art expression
   through multi-media and developing creative and drawing skills

FRENCH:
  -Continuing introduction to the French language; basic vocabulary (numbers 1 to 100, colours,
   days of week, animals, food); French games and songs; spelling of some French words;
   body parts; some verbs – using Activie Units (1+2); specific study on school, birthdays, animals,
   games, and family

PHYSICAL EDUCATION:
  -Weekly physical activity class--fitness exercises--soccer--cross country, track and field,
   cooperative games Emphasis: developing physical fitness and sportsmanship

MUSIC AND DRAMA:
  -Participation in plays and musicales presented at special school programs---public speaking contest
   (original speech and poetry recital), Scripture memory Emphasis: developing freedom and
   familiarity in public speaking, singing, acting and choreography

FIELD TRIPS AND SPECIAL DAYS:
