  (Christ & My Choices), and prayer-- weekly praise assemblies--
  Gideon Youth Testament distribution--*all other subject areas are
  scripture based and instructed with a definite Christian influence*
  Emphasis: awareness of a personal need to know and worship God

READING COMPREHENSION:
  Language analysis skills—Read and Think Comprehensive Exercises,
  independent study -- library opportunities. Emphasis: development in
  oral reading skills, increasing vocabulary, exposure to informative content,
  appreciating literature, conveying comprehension through note-taking.
  Bob Jones Reader: “Pages in My Head”, encyclopedia research.

SPELLING:
  Daily practice for weekly spelling list--weekly spelling assignment
  (ACSI Spelling 5)--phonics drills, annual Spelling Bee Contest.
  Emphasis: recognizing phonetics in English spelling, and alertness
  to sight words

LANGUAGE:
  Weekly language assignments (A Beka Language 5)--topics covered:
  synonyms, antonyms, homonyms, using the dictionary, alphabetical order,
  word use, subjects and predicates, verbs, nouns, pronouns, modifiers,
  prepositions, conjunctions, interjections, oral and written book reports,
  letters, paragraphs, outlines, punctuation, complements, composition
  writing skills, poetry, penmanship skills Emphasis: reviewing fundamental

MATHEMATICS:
  Weekly math assignments (A Beka Mathematics 5)--topics covered: place value;
  binary operations (=,-,x,/) with 1 and 2 digit divisors, 4 and 5 digit dividends, 2 and 3 digit multiplicands;
  basic geometry, perpendicular and parallel lines, polygons, circles; perimeter and area of
  rectangular-type shapes; fractions: +,- with like denominators, improper fractions, mixed numbers,
  simplifying; averaging numbers; decimals: multiplying and dividing, adding and subtracting,
  writing decimals as fractions; solving equations; measurement in metric; converting temperature
  (Celsius to Fahrenheit) Emphasis: learning to apply arithmetic skillfully in order to function in daily life

FRENCH:
  Weekly lesson: an oral & written introduction to basic French vocabulary, (dealing with school,
  family, community, first aid, friendship, collections, magic show, sewing, and numbers),
  common French phrases and simple dialogue; Emphasis: introduction to French as a
  second language using Activie 1 & 2 units

GEOGRAPHY/SOCIAL STUDIES:
  Mapping skills, Ontario, The North, India, Famous Canadians

SCIENCE:
  Abeka 4 curriculum – Understanding God’s World – Insects, Plants, Birds, Matter, Energy, Astronomy

ART:
  Emphasis: art expression through multi-media and developing creative and drawing skills

PHYSICAL EDUCATION:
  Weekly physical activity class--fitness exercises--soccer--cross country--track and field, baseball,
  hockey, skating, cooperative games Emphasis: developing physical fitness and sportsmanship

MUSIC & DRAMA:
  Participation in plays and musicales presented at special school programs--public speaking contest
  (original speech and poetry recital), Scripture memory Emphasis: developing freedom and familiarity
  in public speaking, singing, acting and choreography
