Thank you for volunteering with ERCS! We need and appreciate your help. The contribution by volunteers is invaluable. At the same time, our highest priority is maintaining a safe environment for our students, so we ask all of our volunteers to go through a screening and training process.
For new volunteers, we ask that the following be completed before volunteering.
- Submit a volunteer application.
- Provide a VSC Police Check. These are usually requested online. ERCS will provide you with a letter to give to your local police department requesting the record check. Some police departments charge a fee for volunteer checks – ERCS can reimburse you for this cost if you bring in your receipt with your completed record check.
- If you live in Fergus/Elora, request your VSC from the OPP.
- If you live in Guelph, request your VSC from the Guelph Police.
- If you live outside those regions, contact your local police to request a VSC.
- Read over the Safeguard Operating Standard (SOS) manual and complete a quiz.
To keep your volunteer status up to date, each subsequent year volunteers must:
- Submit an Offence Declaration
- Watch a training video
- Complete a short quiz
